Pushing the boudaries of the box in design thinking.

Thinking outside of the box can be a challenge. It can take time. But outside of this box is where creative magic happens. Write it all down. It will all lead somewhere. Some are bad ideas and some are good. As designers we have thousands of bad designs in our brains and this is a great way of filtering them out in your attempt to find a great branding strategy. Word association games are my favorite way to spark ideas that really work in the real world.


This is the business name divided into bubbles that lead off the beaten path of ideas. You can do this with slogans, brand colors, typefaces and typeface names, descriptive words that describe the brand and pieces, places, names from the brands back story.


I encourage all creatives to take this approach before ideating. Make sure you do competitive research to ensure it's not already in another brands strategy, but more often then not it won't be. This helps brand voice, cohesion and gives you hundreds of ideas.
